Do you dread giving feedback?

I'm talking constructive feedback

Feedback that gets the right results

Upgrade your team’s performance, your leadership capabilities, and your professional relationships with effective feedback conversations.

Does this sound familiar?

  • Are you a team member without the authority to give necessary feedback?

  • Are you a project manager who struggles to get people to deliver consistently?

  • Do you feel less like a team leader and more like a parent or therapist?

  • Do you have a boss who really needs to hear the truth?

What am I missing?

If you’ve had bad experiences when giving feedback and it’s something you now dread, you are not alone. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve given constructive feedback in the past that was so soft it was taken as a compliment. While I have colleagues who couldn’t have been clearer and caused the other person to explode with rage or burst into tears.

The crazy thing is if you Google ‘how to give feedback’, there are thousands of articles offering tips and techniques. So why is it still so unpredictable and stressful? Part of the problem is the way we approach these types of conversations, we try to be rational and logical, but people aren’t just rational, they are emotional too, including you!

What if I told you that there is a way to give feedback that gets taken on board, and more than that, builds trust and increases cooperation going forward. But it’s probably the complete opposite to what you are currently doing it.

Avoiding these conversations can damage your career

Ignoring poor or unhelpful behaviour doesn’t help you in several ways.

Your team notice when you don’t deal with performance issues, and this undermines their trust in you.

It doesn’t help your career prospects because (good) leaders notice and hear when inequality is taking place.

It doesn’t help the individual who needs the feedback because it doesn’t give them the necessary awareness and support to shift their behaviour.

Learn and practice a method of giving feedback in a safe space that will not only improve the performance of your team, it will have a positive impact on your work relationships and career.

Which programme is for you?

The programme is split into two parts.

The Core programme of 5 weeks teaches the fundamentals of giving feedback that's heard, and builds trust and connection.

If you feel you need more support advanced tools to manage people who you feel are going out of their way to be difficult, I've created an optional Advanced programme for an extra 3 weeks.

Core programme

Before the programme starts you'll take a behaviour assessment - a Harrison Assessment - that highlight your strengths and where you might be having some challenges - and we'll have a private debrief on those reports together. This alone is a super insightful report and really helps identify the possible challenges you have and I use it with all my professional clients.

I'll tailor the weekly workshops based on your strengths and possible blindspots.

During this live five-week programme we'll learn the building blocks of giving feedback that works - what to do, what not to do. What to say, what not to say. We will learn and practice each element of the process, with tools and exercises to try out during the week. I'll be available to have one-on-one calls with you each week to discuss progress, problems or answer your questions.

At the end of the core programme you will know what to say to address unhelpful behaviour, you'll know how to say it so it gets heard and taken on board, and most importantly you'll feel confident to drive a variety of people+performance-related conversations, beyond giving feedback.

Advanced programme

The core programme will help you improve your daily performance challenges with others, and is great for people starting out or who have a few years experience managing the performance of others.

However, there are certain people who need special conversations that get to the heart of the enduring performance issues. If managed well can pave the way to a new working relationship, or if not, reassure you that you did everything you could to enable them to re-engage with the team, with their work, and their contractual commitments.

Those types of conversations are more delicate, more demanding, and require different types of conversations depending on the situation and the seriousness.

The Advanced programme continues after the Core programme. To kick off, we'll run an EQ Brain Profiler to better understand you prefer way of thinking and we'll have a private debrief on that together.

Over the following 3 weeks, we'll learn how to manage and structure difficult conversations, using a combination of the Core programme tools and insights, plus new tools. The Advanced programme goes beyond just giving feedback that works, and moves into the realm of managing enduringly difficult people and the related difficult conversations, but we aren't firing them yet! (I know you want to ;-))
